Stones of Aries

Some of the things I love the most, besides my gorgeous children and large, absolutely crazy family; are arts and crafts, of any kind or medium; research, I mean anything that gets me even the slightest bit curious; and gemstones, well any and all rocks. I’m able to combine these loves and share them with others through Danu’s Treasure Trove.

Lately I have been making jewelry that is centered around the Zodiac. This of course means that I have been researching zodiac stones. So, I thought I’d share some the interesting things I’ve found out about them.

First up is Zodiac Stones for Aries. The two main stones for Aries are Diamonds & Bloodstones.

The Diamond is known as ‘The King of Gems’. The ancient Greeks named it “adamas”, meaning invincible, indestructible. Diamonds are believed to provide strength, courage, and invincibility in a fight. They also help produce bravery, daring, and eventual victory. Therefore, in Ancient Rome, soldiers wore diamonds that were set in steel rings created so that the stone would touch their skin.

The Diamond is also known as ‘The Stone of Protection’. Having a diamond faceted in a six sided cut will bring the wearer lifelong luck. The mount should not prevent the stone from touching the skin, otherwise its properties will disappear.

Diamonds are also believed to bring longevity, balance, clarity, and abundance; particularly to a relationship. They also encourage self-confidence and independence, and counteract jealousy. It’s recommended that diamonds be worn on the left hand or at the neck for stronger benefits.

Associations: Chakra – 7th; Element – Fire; Planets – Sun & Venus

Bloodstone is known as ‘The Stone of Courage’. It was carried by soldiers to avoid been wounded and to stop bleeding. It’s believed to have a calming effect on fear and anger. It is also said to lengthen life and aid one to go unnoticed, if desired.

Bloodstone is also known as ‘The Martyr’s Stone’. Legend says that bloodstones were first formed when drops of Christ’s blood fell and stained some Jasper at the foot of the cross.

In ancient times, women carried bloodstones to ensure a safe pregnancy and childbirth. It’s also believed to help one to be victorious in legal matters, and aid in business by attracting money and success. Keep a Bloodstone in your wallet for luck, money, and health.

You Can't Be A Ninja Without Chakra Stones

For the last 10 days, our beautiful city of Austin, TX has been taken over by South By Southwest. SXSW is a celebration of our title of "Live Music Capital of the World". You can find live music at almost any time of the day or night. We have visitors from all over. This is also a terrific opportunity for vendors; there are tent cities set up all over town, selling everything imaginable. The most prolific area is on a section of South Congress, SoCo to the locals.

We were set up last Sunday on SoCo at the Market @SnackBar, enjoying the beautiful weather and eclectic crowds; and selling our wares. Three young, college-aged men came into our booth to browse. Young men are not our usual demographic, so this was unusual. One of them called his friend over to see our Chakra Stone display. He said to his friend, "You can't be a ninja without chakra stones". We had to stifle chuckles. Well, apparently it was so. His friend was, seemingly, fascinated by the informational brochure that accompanies our Chakra Stones. He asked if he could have the brochure; and when I explained that it came with the stones, he bought a set. Shock and surprise!
Chakra Stones

While the "Ninja" was studying the Chakra Stones, his friends were browsing the rest of our booth. Another of the young men bought one of the few men's pieces we had left and said, "I'll probably be back later". How many times have we heard that? We very seldom see that person again. But, he did come back several hours later. He must have visited many of the blocks of vendors in the time he was gone. Upon his return to our booth, he purchased a number of gifts that he said were for his mother and sisters.

Prosperity Tree

Well, I have to tell you, our hearts soared. Of course, it was wonderful having the sales; but the most exciting part was that he chose to give gifts of our creation to those that he loved. I credit those sales to the power of the stones themselves. They wanted to go home (wherever that was) with this delightful young man; and they called him back to our booth.

We Love Happy Customers

A few weeks ago, Liz created a beautiful bracelet honoring lucky ladies with a Pisces birthday. Most people are familiar with the traditional birthstone of Aquamarine; but may not know about some of the other lovely stones for March or those with a Pisces birthday. She incorporated a variety off these stones in the Pisces Bracelet.
Pisces Bracelet

This gorgeous piece had only been listed on Etsy for a few days when it was purchased. That's always exciting; but what happened next just thrilled us.

A couple of weeks later, we received correspondence from the customer that purchased the Pisces Bracelet, asking if we had one for April.

She had bought the bracelet for her mother's birthday. Her mother loved the bracelet. Her sister has a birthday coming up in April and she wanted to know if we had something similar, designed for Aries.

Well, we did have it in the plans; but hadn't completed it yet. So, Liz got busy and the Aries Bracelet was born. It is just as lovely as Pisces, and the customer was very happy to buy a second bracelet for her sister.
Aries Bracelet

Since April hasn't even arrived yet, we may make another one. You can always request something special for someone special (even yourself). We are always excited to fill custom orders.

A big thanks to our wonderful Etsy customer. Filling orders like this, and knowing that our work is making someone else happy, makes this work so rewarding.

Customers are SUPER WONDERFUL!

The Aquamarine is the modern birthstone for March. This beautiful cousin of the Emerald is a very popular gemstone with modern jewelry designers. The color of Aquamarine can range from the light blue of the sky to the deep blue of the sea. According to one legend the Aquamarine originated in the treasure chests of mermaids; and has been considered the lucky stone of sailors since ancient times. Its name comes from the Latin aqua (water) and mere (sea).

Most Aquamarines in circulation come from Brazil; but they can also be found in Nigeria, Zambia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. The more intense the color, the more valuable the stone. The Aquamarine is a variety of beryl; and derives its color from iron. It has a good hardness (7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale) and wonderful shine.

Aquamarine is a "stone of courage". It enhances intellectual ability and aids in learning. It provides shielding for the aura. It encourages the ability to "always be prepared".

The energy of the Aquamarine has a structured property, that helps to maintain order and balance; but at the same time, it has a free-flowing quality. It can aid those that are involved in spiritual development, as it provides emotional and intellectual stability and enhances the connection to the higher-self.

Aquamarine can help judgmental people to be more tolerant; and can help bring order to those overwhelmed by responsibility. It also helps one to take responsibility for ones actions and consequential circumstances.

March - a Time for New Beginnings

Happy Texas Independence Day! March 2 is a very special day to all Texans. It is especially memorable to this Texan, as the birthday of one of my beautiful daughters.

March is full of special days of celebration. Most people are familiar with St Patrick’s Day on the 17th; but did you know about St David’s Day (Wales) on the 1st and St Piran’s Day (Cornwall) on the 5th?

March is also the time of the Spring Equinox on the 20th, known as Ostara to our Pagan/Wiccan friends. Don’t forget Nu Ruz, the Persian New Year on the 21st.

Ostara Necklace
This is our interpretation of Ostara, rendered in gemstones.

Ostara Bracelet

Tree of Life Chalice - Spring
This is such a powerful time of new beginnings. Things are beginning to put forth new growth; there are bits of green everywhere. This is the time of year when we are sure Spring is here, and that Mother Earth will soon show us her bounty.

Stones are our passion, so we will be show casing some of the stones associated with this glorious month. Most people know that Aquamarine is the March birthstone; but there have been other beautiful stones associated with this month throughout history and in various cultures. Some of these stones are listed here and will be spotlighted during the month of March. So, stay tuned for up-coming episodes.

Modern birthstone – Aquamarine

Traditional birthstone – Bloodstone

Zodiac birthstone (Pisces) – Amethyst, Moonstone, Calcite, Labradorite, Sunstone

Zodiac birthstone (Aries) - Aventurine, Carnelian, Garnet, Rose Quartz

Ancient astrology stone (Pisces) - Amazonite, Malachite, Moss Agate

Ancient astrology stone (Aries) - Peridot, Jade, Fuschite

Elemental stone - Fluorite

Old Testament birthstone – Chalcedony

Spanish birthstone – Jasper

Jewish birthstone – Jasper

Mystical birthstone – Jade

Ayurvedic birthstone - Bloodstone

This information has been gathered from many sources, and all do not agree; but these seem to be the most common stones listed for March.
